You play as a test subject who is awoken by a personality sphere called Stirling and join his mission to find a powerful device capable of restoring Aperture to its former glory. ДВИГАТЕЛЬ Portal: Revolution uses a modified version of Portal 2: Community Edition's engine, which is a custom version of the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Source Engine branch using licensed source code provided by Valve Software.

Это позволило нам ввести в движок множество механик и улучшений, чтобы создать впечатления, которые были бы невозможны в Portal 2.

It's alright. I certainly can't unrecommend this game. It's competently put together, has some fun puzzles, and a decent story. I found Stirling incredibly annoying due to how utterly nasally and tinny his voice was. Very unpleasant to listen to (No offense to the voice actor, I'm sure these qualities were specifically asked for which is a direction issue, not a voice issue necessarily). Conly's voice was significantly more enjoyable and frankly I could have used another hour of her. For other positive things, the puzzles were overall well designed (with a few exceptions), but nothing terribly challenging for portal veterans. It was definitely made with the masses in mind. More people would probably be more wowed by the puzzles if they haven't seen some of the new puzzle elements before, like the portal laser cubes and the water showers, but I have, so there wasn't much here for me. Other than that, my other problem with this game story wise is that it just does nothing new or interesting. In it's own way, it's basically a 1:1 mirror of Portal 2's plot of you unknowingly helping a core take over the facility, who is so stupid he's going to destroy it, etc etc. It even basically copies the teleportation sequence from Half-Life 2, which was so shameless it was a little shocking, actually. Especially since not much of anything of note happens narratively other than "now you can solve more puzzles!" I also felt like the game doesn't really give you a good enough reason to continue solving the puzzles, especially in the second half of the game. Sure, meta wise, we know GlaDOS is No Good and Very Bad, but this random test subject you play doesn't know that. Why do we even care about getting back to the surface? We are promised nothing in return for our services by either Conly or Stirling. Sure, meta wise, the reason is because solving puzzles is fun, but in stories, you need to give your characters motivations, otherwise you have nothing. Hell, Conly doesn't even know what is happening until literally the last 30 minutes, so most of your time spent with her is just her going "hubba wha?" at the events of Portal 1. Finally, the final battle was also not terribly interesting as it was mostly just a re-hash of Portal 1's ending with the only real differences being bullet turrets instead of a rocket turret, conveniently teleported chambers that ignore the laws of gravity, and buttons. Plus, it just kind of ends very suddenly as credits roll. It was unsatisfying IMO. I think that mostly covers the main issues with the plot design. There are more but would require a lot more time than I'm willing to really spend. It's not that the writing is even "bad" necessarily, more that it's just a re-hash of all of the themes and even directly ripping off the themes of it's predecessors. It feels like constant deja-vu. Despite my glaring issues with the game's plot, it's fine. You will enjoy spending a few hours on it. Hell, you might even go for the achievements. No problem with me. And it's free, after all, I think I would be much more critical if it wasn't. TL:DR = This game is alright as long as you don't expect anything spectacular in any way, both in terms of puzzles, or writing. It's a rehash of Portal's overall themes with a slightly different coat of paint. That would be an issue if it was paid, but since it's free, if you're willing to accept those flaws coming into it, you won't come away terribly disappointed. Additionally, it works fine mechanically. If this is your first Portal mod experience, you'll probably really enjoy this as well; this is coming from someone who has been playing Portal mods since 2012 so it's not surprising a game going for a more diverse audience doesn't do much new for me.

I think it falls off. Portal Revolution has some pretty great puzzles but for some really good puzzles theres some relatively easy ones or ones that just.. don't feel rewarding to solve, unfortunately. The biggest offender are the puzzles which you either have to destroy a cube or you have to backtrack (those ones were extremely frustrating for me because if you make a mistake in one of those it feels like you restart the entire test). Unfortunately, I also just didn't find the story nor characters very engaging for me either.. If I can compliment anything, the production value is absolutely top notch and its really pretty.

Ok, this mod was amazing. I would go as far as to say it's on par with the Valve-made Portal games. The story is great & could be canon because of how it works with the existing story. The characters are very Valve-esque which is great. I love both Stirling & Emilia Conly. They are both funny and work perfectly for this game. The music here is so good and changes through the level depending on where you are. I love this soundtrack so much. I will say that it ran worse than Portal 2 for me but I will say that my PC is a potato so it running with minimal lag is cool. If you liked the Portal games and want more than this is for you. I give Portal Revolution a 9.2 / 10 on the T-T-TV rating scale. I hope they make a sequel someday.

I started playing Portal: Revolution on the day it was released and finished it in day, and I have absolutely no idea why I didn’t write about my impressions in a review. Two and a half years later, while looking for something to play, I found this mod in my library, launched it with absolutely no recollection of having played it before, and my first impressions (up to about Chapter 5) were very positive. And then I remembered why I hadn’t written a review. Portal: Revolution is a very good mod, but the plot, to put it mildly, is completely made up. Of course, it’s obvious at a glance that a tremendous amount of work went into the game, and the characters are genuinely interesting, but does this story differ from the original Portal (or, if we consider non-canon games, Portal Stories: Mel)? Nope. It all looks like a carbon copy; there are a couple of plot holes, and overall, I got the feeling that one team worked on the part before “ The Spire ” appeared, and after that - completely different people (this is purely my personal impression, which arose after Chapter 5). I’d like to mention the soundtracks (or rather, the lack of them) and it’s precisely this absence of music, combined with the ambient sounds of the world, that sometimes created a sense of total immersion and even suspense. The test chambers are, to be honest, pretty easy and are suitable for a first playthrough of the Portal universe (seriously, these are VERY easy test chambers, no offense to the developers. Maybe one or two of the tests really made me think / took me more than 10 minutes each to complete). And that’s basically it, the ending leaves a bit of a “meh” aftertaste, but I’ll repeat/expand on a point from my previous sentences to make it clear why I still recommend this mod: I think this is a very good mod for getting acquainted with the Portal universe, a sort of appetizer that will spark a whole bunch of questions, intrigue, and curiosity about this story (Who is GLaDOS? How many cores are there, and what kinds are they? Who defeated GLaDOS? Where are all the people? And .... mannequins ?) Still, I realize that my opinion hits a snag: to play this mod, you need to have Portal 2 on your Steam account :D Thanks for reading my review, and have a great day~

I really wish I could say I enjoyed my time with it but Portal mods have got to find another story beat other than "Core is nice and betrays you at the end." it happens in so many other mods and I really thought this was going to be a breath of fresh air and instead I got a glorified portal 2 rehash. It just wasn't fun.

Тот самый мод по вселенной Portal, которого вы ждали. Погрузитесь в новую историю с оригинальными персонажами, рассчитанную более чем на 8 часов игры и включающую свыше 40 новых сложных тестовых камер, использующих уникальные механики.
