Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate’s Booty introduces a new environment with pirate ships, mountaintop settlements and the town of Oasis, it lacks the biome variety of the main game as it’s all set in the orangey outback except briefly with a tower in the end having greenery but has a solid sense of scale with a lot of verticality, you get to navigate it with the new Sandskiff vehicle that has really fun fast and floaty movement which makes for some decent vehicle combat too. Scarlett herself is a likeable rival with her honest, friendly persona mixed with being clearly immoral and backstabby, and although the dialogue was very hit and miss the cringe to endearing ratio got way better as I found myself chuckling at a lot of jokes. The mission progression and enemy variety also felt solid as you face gangs, local wildlife like Crystalisks and Sand Worms, and Hyperion robots with a decent mix of exploration and combat and not much tedium, though some side missions were poorly designed (the X marks the spot missions can sometimes have their spots be obscure or buggy, and the optional boss Master Gee has an incredibly clunky boss fight gimmick that you’re unlikely to figure out without looking it up).
