Как по мне дополнение на голову выше не менее прекрасного оригинала, но тут больше проработки , постановки, механик, врагов и оружия. Играется бодрее оригинала. Механика с барнаклом понравилась.

Probably a better game than the original Half-Life. Opposing Force lets you take on a new role as a soldier, fighting for the other side and understanding their motives and mission. It follows the same story from a different set of eyes, allowing you to experience it differently, but the greatest moments occur when situations you previously played as Morgan Freeman intersect. Level design is still excellent, although finding the right path sometimes proved difficult, leading to some frustration and time wasted. New, most of the time annoying to face but interesting enemies. Great atmosphere. More weapons to cycle through with cool concepts and overall funnier to play with. Night vision. Tactical combat where you fight alongside a squad with specific roles but mostly unreliable and poor AI. Short but fulfilling.

Opposing Force is my favorite Half-Life expansion. I actually like it even more than the original game. It is one of those games I never get tired of playing over and over again. Being able to see the events of a game universe from the perspective of the enemy and understand their motivations is one of the reasons I love this game. Playing as a HECU soldier sent to cover up the events at Black Mesa is truly a completely different experience. The training section at the beginning also does a good job of making us feel like a soldier. Here, we learn how to use Night Vision and how to climb and swing from ropes to jump across gaps. The sections where we fight alongside HECU soldiers are really fun. Fighting alongside the soldiers we constantly saw as enemies in Half-Life is a lot of fun this time. Even though the AI sometimes acts stupid. In the “We Are Not Alone” chapter, we see Gordon Freeman passing through the teleport. Seeing this scene from Shephard's perspective this time is a really nice detail. When we go to Xen through the same teleport, we see Gordon there, and after falling down, we return to the previous save because of the paradox that occurs. The fact that this detail was actually thought out is really nice. One of my favorite aspects of the game is the new weapons and enemies. The addition of Race X adds some nice variety to the game. The M249 Squad Automatic Weapon and M-40A1 Sniper Rifle are my favorite weapons. I especially love the feeling of power the M249 gives during firefights, and shooting enemies from long range with the M-40A1 is really enjoyable. The Displacer Cannon, one of the new weapons, is also different and cool thanks to its right-click ability. I compare it to the BFG9000 from DOOM. Being able to teleport enemies and, in some situations, send ourselves to a different location is a really nice idea. You need to use its ammunition carefully, but it is very satisfying when used at the right moment. The only downside is that the game is short. I wish Race X had been explored a little more and that we had gotten a few more new chapters. It also disappoints me that Race X has never been mentioned in any other Half-Life game. Other than that, Opposing Force adds some great things to Half-Life despite being released one year after it, and it is an expansion worth playing on its own. It has been 26 years since the game was released, but we still have no idea what happened to Corporal Adrian Shephard or Race X. I hope that if Half-Life 3 ever comes out, we get to see something related to them. Surely Valve wouldn't just leave Shephard forgotten somewhere in the interdimensional void. Even a small reference to the story of Opposing Force after 26 years would make me very happy. Despite all these years, it is still one of those games I keep coming back to.

Opposing Force is a great expansion to Half-Life 1, this time putting you in the shoes of a military corporal. While you technically play as one of Gordon’s enemies, without spoiling too much, you are mostly focused on surviving rather than carrying out some morally dubious mission. The game is about half the length of Half-Life and keeps the same core gameplay while adding quite a few new weapons, enemies, and other mechanics. This helps it feel like a proper expansion rather than just more of the exact same Half-Life. It is a bit of a shame that the game was not made by Valve and was never confirmed to be canon, so it feels more like a possible scenario than a real piece of Half-Life lore. Still, I really liked what they did with the story and how naturally they integrated it into the events and world of the original game. If you enjoyed Half-Life 1, this is an easy recommendation and almost a must-play.

Different than half life , unique in its own way. They perfectly kept the half life charm while adding something new to it without ruining it. I really recommend to not skip this just to play hl2.
